Cutest Anime Pets And Mascots Pt. 1

In anime, no matter the genre, pets or mascots make everything so much better. They give a certain life to the story and a visual appeal. I think a lot of series just add them in to attract people and not because they’re a crucial part of the story. In this mini series, I will show some of my favorite pets/mascots from different series. Enjoy.

Studio ghibli

Studio ghibli

Movie: My neighboor Totoro

Synopsis: In 1950s Japan, Tatsuo Kusakabe relocates himself and his two daughters, Satsuki and Mei, to the countryside to be closer to their mother, who is hospitalized due to long-term illness. As the girls grow acquainted with rural life, Mei encounters a small, bunny-like creature in the yard one day. Chasing it into the forest, she finds “Totoro”—a giant, mystical forest spirit whom she soon befriends. Before long, Satsuki too meets Totoro, and the two girls suddenly find their lives filled with magical adventures in nature and fantastical creatures of the woods.

Totoro is one of the most recognized mascots in anime. He’s adorable, has a great story and is liked by people of all ages. He’s just an amazing character all around who brought a lot of attention to Japan and Studio Ghibli in a good way.

Princess Jellyfish

Princess Jellyfish

Anime: Princess Jellyfish

Synopsis: Ever since her late mother took her to an aquarium when she was young, Tsukimi Kurashita has been obsessed with jellyfish, comparing their flowing tentacles to a princess’s white dress. Now living with five other unemployed women, 19-year-old Tsukimi spends her days as a social outcast dreaming of becoming an illustrator.

However, her life changes forever when one day, a beautiful woman unexpectedly helps her save a jellyfish in a local pet store. From then on, the stranger—confident, fashionable, and the complete opposite of Tsukimi and her roommates—begins to regularly visit the girls’ building. This trendy hipster, though appearing shallow at first, harbors some secrets of her own, starting with the fact that “she” isn’t really a girl at all, but a wealthy male college student named Kuranosuke Koibuchi!

Clara is my all time favorite pet that has appeared in any series. She sometimes serves as solace for Tsukimi, when she’s going through a though situation. She’s elegant yet adorable, bringing a great twist to the anime whenever she appears talking, to explain whatever it is that’s going on.

Tetsuya #2

Kuroko no Basket

kuruko no basket

Anime: Kuruko no basket

Synopsis: At Seirin High School, two newly recruited freshmen prove that they are not ordinary basketball players: Taiga Kagami, a promising player returning from the US, and Tetsuya Kuroko, a seemingly ordinary student whose lack of presence allows him to move around unnoticed. Although Kuroko is neither athletic nor able to score any points, he was a member of Teikou’s basketball team, where he played as the “Phantom Sixth Man,” who easily passed the ball and assisted his teammates.

Kuroko no Basket follows the journey of Seirin’s players as they attempt to become the best Japanese high school team by winning the Interhigh Championship. To reach their goal, they have to cross pathways with several powerful teams, some of which have one of the five players with godlike abilities, whom Kuroko and Taiga make a pact to defeat.

Tetsuya #2 is Tetsuya Kuroko’s pet dog. He accuired his name due to how similar his gaze is to Testuya’s. He is taken care of by Kuroko and the Seirin team, and has become somewhat of the club’s mascot. We can all agree that he’s an adorable dog and certainly brings a lively aspect to the series for those animal lovers out there.

Anime: Clannad

Synopsis: Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he’ll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away. One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims “Anpan!” which catches Tomoya’s attention. He soon discovers the girl’s name is Nagisa Furukawa. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing. However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school’s drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.

Botan is Kyou’s pet boar. Despite having a great owner, she is afraid her twin sister Ryou, since she once tried to get her into the bath with her, which she mistook for an attempt of cooking her alive. She is shown as a baby in the start of the series, and in After Story, Botan is already an adult. Although she doesn’t have much of a purpose in the series, Botan is a super adorable pet, who added a comedic aspect to some episodes.

cowboy bebop

Cowboy Bebop

Anime: Cowboy bebop

Synopsis: In the year 2071, humanity has colonized several of the planets and moons of the solar system leaving the now uninhabitable surface of planet Earth behind. The Inter Solar System Police attempts to keep peace in the galaxy, aided in part by outlaw bounty hunters, referred to as “Cowboys.” The ragtag team aboard the spaceship Bebop are two such individuals. Well-balanced with high density action and light-hearted comedy, Cowboy Bebop is a space Western classic and an homage to the smooth and improvised music it is named after.

Ein is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi whose intelligence was greatly enhanced by a research facility. He is known as a “data dog”, and what exactly was done to increase his intelligence is unknown. Even though he has enhanced intelligence, he is unable to speak. This causes the other characters to not really notice how smart he is. Although he is just a dog, he has helped the whole gang in some situations, and I’m sure they’re glad he’s around.
